The Devil on My Back is Givin' Me a Ride 2 Nite
What can I say? I really, really, really like bikes. Always have. It's cool
how something has been a part of my life for so long. When I was 2, I
would race around the house on my Big Wheel. I tore that shit up. I still
ride in the house on my bike.
I don't ever remember having training wheels. Before I was even 3 years
old, I got this little bike from a garage sale or something. My dad put
training wheels on it and I was like, "Take that shit off Dad. It ain't cool."
He did and I rode it. I was and still am all about being cool. My uncles
taught me that. They're cool.
Evel Knievel was my hero. He was and still is a badass. I'd fear for my
life if I said anything bad about him. He'll come knockin'. (I wrote this
before he died)
KISS, vans with fur on the dashboard and mirrors on the ceiling, loud
stereos with some serious amps, bell bottom pants, feathered hair and a
trimmed bush, those are some of things that make me feel good.
My parents taught me to work hard. I learned to work smart. I've always
been a slacker. But when I get into something, I really get into it. I've had
a lot of jobs over the years. I've always worked. I've always been an
entreprenuer. From the time I was a kid with a paper route to selling
candy in school. Yep, I was the candyman. Now, I'm the ice cream man.
I love what I'm doing with PisgahWorks and the vision I have for it. I am a
visionary philosopher.
I moved to Asheville at the end of 2004. I had a good vibe about it when I
came to visit. So I went home and packed my shit up. Asheville's a great
place to live and ride your bike. Over the years, riding has taught me a
lot. Riding in Pisgah has taught me even more. Things can get shitty
real quick. If you're not prepared, you're fucked. You can die out there
in a number of ways. In the words of Waylon Jennings, "Someday the
mountain might get me but the law never will." Rock on brother!
Speaking of rock, I dig the shit out of the Supersuckers. I have a Titus
RacerX. I mostly ride my Jamis Dragon SS and an old Dakota (built up
SS for CycloX or road/commuting). My bikes rock and so do I. I like
doing longer events like PMBAR (The Death March), ORAMM, Swank65.
6-12 hour shit. Killer loops vs going in circles. My favorite event is the
Double Dare. Eric Wever runs that event and he is a sick individual.
I enjoy doing epics in Pisgah. There's some killer loops to be had. I
enjoy taking people out in the woods on their bikes and making them
wonder if they're going to make it back alive. If you're ever in town and
can handle a 5hr day on the bike, hit me up. I'll be your huckleberry. Be
prepared to pay up sucker, I'm a fucker.
